He began his career in 2002 as a legal advisor at the Ministry of Transport. In 2005, he completed judicial internship and a year later passed his bar exam. During the first Slovenian presidency of the Council of the EU in 2007, he joined the transport team as assistant for land transport and intermodal connections. After the presidency, he became the transport attaché at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Slovenia to the EU in Brussels, where he was responsible for a number of areas, mainly road, rail, intermodal and maritime transport.
In 2018, he joined the Ministry of Infrastructure in Ljubljana, where he worked on sustainable transport policies. In 2019, he became the Acting Director General of the newly created Sustainable Mobility and Transport Policy Directorate, before being appointed Director General in 2020. In 2023, the Transport Policy Directorate came under the remit of the newly created Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy.
During his tenure as the Director General, the Directorate’s team has delivered a number of important projects, three of which stand out. The adoption of the law on integrated transport planning has laid the foundations for a more systemic management of transport policy and sustainable mobility in Slovenia, and a reform of the transport policy of the Republic of Slovenia and a digital platform for monitoring its implementation are currently being developed. Management responsibilities were transferred to the newly established Company for the Management of Public Passenger Transport, whose mission is to improve the quality, attractiveness and use of public transport in Slovenia. With the adoption of the law on alternative fuels infrastructure and promotion of transition to alternative fuels in transport, the legal and institutional framework has been created for accelerating the development of alternative fuels refuelling and supply infrastructure and providing incentives for the transition.
